Outplacement

Sponsor: Legal Services Company

Client: Fiona – senior manager whose role was made redundant

Goals

There were three key goals:

1. Support Fiona through a difficult period in her career.
2. Enable Fiona to examine her values and personality, using this period to re-examine her work and consider other options.
3. Facilitate Fiona’s job search strategy with practical feedback, advice and non-directive coaching.

Actual Outcomes

After a difficult start, with Fiona’s shock at her redundancy making it hard for her to focus on the future, the coaching support helped her to use personality profiling and a values exercise to fully consider Fiona’s life and career so far. With her coach, Fiona examined a wide range of career and life options, before deciding on a modest change of direction to a related role in the same industry, where she felt her strengths and personality would be better suited. Once her decision was made, the coach gave her feedback on her CV and refined her job search through a combination of directive mentoring and non-directive coaching.

Fiona secured a number of interviews, and was able to secure a new role within three months of leaving her previous employer. This gave her the time and resources to use some of her redundancy package to fulfil her ambition to go on safari in Africa.

Fiona’s verdict:

"Being made redundant was a big shock. The coach’s support helped me to get over it quickly and take control with a strategy to find a new job. I really valued the chance to think about where I’m going"

The sponsor said:
"Making roles redundant is always difficult and we were keen to follow best practice. We are pleased that Fiona has found another role so quickly."
