Goals
Through meetings with the coachee himself, the programme sponsor and a 360˚ assessment undertaken with six colleagues, three main goals were identified:
1. Develop Gordon’s leadership by increasing flexibility and broadening his suite of leadership styles.
2. Enable Gordon to improve the cohesiveness of his team by helping team members to acknowledge differences and fully align with team goals.
3. Enhance Gordon’s effectiveness in meetings with peers
Actual Outcomes
The effectiveness of the programme was measured by a 360˚ assessment at the end of the programme mirroring that carried out before the start.
Gordon is now seen as a much clearer leader of his whole team and he generates a “good vibe”. He keeps his team happy and committed, even with really rough projects. He is now good at mobilising the right people to make things happen. Gordon is now seen as a much better delegator, although there remains room for improvement. He is seen as a hard worker who never shirks difficult decisions.
Gordon now communicates well with ALL members of his team and has developed his relationships, particularly with London colleagues. He is now seen as approachable and much more accessible than he used to be. He now gives high quality feedback. Gordon’s team has made improvements in how its projects are managed.
Gordon is now generally much better prepared for meetings. He is also seen as much more assertive and now uses his communication skills well. In a broader context he is now seen as good at building strong networks across the organisation and mobilising the right people to make things happen.
Gordon’s verdict:
"He has found him (Richard) to be very personable, always willing to fit meetings round his schedule and always follows up after their meetings. He found the sessions and the resulting tasks he has undertaken have helped him focus on the aspects of his career he wishes to improve."
